Recession Hits Hispanics in The Wallet
No doubt about it. The Recession esta aqui. Remittances to Mexico are down. Immigrants legal and illegal are leaving the country to return home. And many U.S. based Hispanics are just trying to keep their homes. I've been reading non-stop articles about hispanos who are going to drastic measures ...two, three jobs to just make ends meets. And that's those who are lucky to have jobs. I just read an article by the Pew Hispanic Center saying 71% of Hispanics have cut down on eating out. 67% cut down their Christmas shopping, and 47% are delaying major purchases.
I just saw this statistic hitting home at my own home. I just bought a small condo and we had a building contractor who brought in ...of course Hispanos to do all the work. So I was just speaking to one of the Hispanos who came to finish painting my place last week. He said they started out doing the work with 25 Hispanos. And then shortly one by one, as work came to an end, and condos finished, they were letting them go little by little...to where they now have 2 people left.
How very demoralizing. It's a sad state and I read and hear about this, when people are cut little by little, it leaves those left it an odd state of almost fear where you wonder who will be cut next.
What a crazy world we are in.
