Hundreds of families are expected to walk along Buford Highway in support of health and safety for the community.
ATLANTA, GA - Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia's (HHCGA) is announcing its first "5K Latino Walk - Stay Healthy" which will take place on World Health Day, April 7.

The walk will be held on Buford Highway, commencing at 8 A.M. at Northeast Plaza (3307 Buford Highway) and ending at Plaza Fiesta (4166 Buford Highway).  The event is designed to raise awareness of health and safety issues that Georgia's Latino community faces and the importance of eliminating health disparities faced by Georgia's Latinos.

The 5K Latino Walk - Stay Healthy a family friendly and FREE event for the community.

The 5K Latino Walk supports HHCGA's efforts to increase healthcare access for Georgia's Latinos, preventing disease, illness, disabilities and pedestrian safety; specifically on the Buford Highway corridor, the most dangerous road in Georgia for pedestrians.

"Latinos are at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and obesity, among other health issues. And two-thirds of Latinos in the state lack access to health care," said Heidy Guzman, HHCGA Executive Director.  "HHCGA and its partners share the belief that health disparities are inconsistent with American values and as such, everyone should be vested in making sure they are eradicated.  In addition, health disparities don't just affect the individuals and families who don't have access to adequate health care; they affect the entire community."

Partners include Publix, Georgia Power, BB&T, Univision 34 Atlanta, Latin Box, PEDS, Mundo Hispanico, DeKalb County Board of Health, EveryBody Walk! Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Latin American Chamber of Commerce and Walgreens among others.
