How To Recipe: Jalapeno Margarita w/ Cilantro

The Jalapeno Margarita is a fresh new taste on an old classic - the margarita.  The margarita provides a slight jalapeno infusion with a garnish of cilantro bringing up the flavor quotient.  This recipe is provided by our favorite former bartender at the Ritz Carlton's DC bar.Recipe:

*2 oz of Gold Tequila (Hispanic.com's bartender likes to use Herradura Reposado)  Any tequila works, however silver tequilas (in his opinion) don't have as much complexities

*Juice from 1 lime (or two smaller)

*1 Pinch of Cilantro (stems are OK)

*1/2 Tablespoon (approximate) of Agave Nectar (adjust as needed for sweetness)

*2 slices of Jalapeno peppers (***de-vein and de-seed***)

*Tiny pinch of Sea Salt (Using a salt mill, use one small turn.  Step is optional.  If salting the rim, don't salt the margarita.)

 

Instructions:

Press juice into shaker, add cilantro and jalapenos.  Muddle 5 or 6 times (this doesn't need to be extravagant muddling or the jalapeno and cilantro flavors will become too dominant, you want them to accent not over power.)  Add tequila, agave nectar and salt (again optional).  Add ice and shake vigorously.  Another reason why the muddling stage doesn't need to be extravagant is during the shaking phase more flavors from the jalapenos and cilantro will be incorporated into the margarita.  Double strain using a hawthorn strainer into a fine mesh strainer to remove the particles from the drink.  Garnish with a piece of cilantro.  Enjoy.
