Hillary Clinton's Could Use Tres Miracles...

5/12/08- The mice known as superdelegates are starting to jump from Hillary´s sinking ship and all she can do is pray to Neptune to calm the waters and perform a mythical miracle for Obama is less than 200 delegates away from securing the nomination.

By Sue RBSenator Clinton suffered some fatal blows this past Tuesday and Democratic leaders are scaling up their pressure for her to leave the race and maybe try to work  on  her marriage  instead ..  Of course, getting the nomination is an easier wish for the deities to grant than to fix that marriage!

Mrs. Clinton does not have the popular vote nor the number of delegates and what’ s even worse, her campaign is yes…broke/penniless/without moolah… She just gave $6.4 million dollars of her own money to breathe life into her candidacy & keep her campaign alive…(whew!)  Additionally, she just acknowledged that the campaign is another $20 million in debt.

For her to get the nomination at this point, she needs several miracles to occur:

  • Win West Virginia, Puerto Rico and Kentucky by a large margin . If she wins these three contests, she will gain some momentum and argue to superdelegates that she can master the popular vote
  • Find the twin of Reverend Wright
  • Dig up a nasty Spitzer-like  romantic scandal starring Barack Obama and a beautiful page! That would really level the playing field...

But, what are the mathematical probabilities of all these instances occurring simultaneously for the ex -first lady? It´s easier to win the Lotto or get hit by lightning 32 times in your lifetime.  Hillary needs to pray el rosario, do the viacrusis on her knees and light the entire Washington Cathedral with white candles....and even then Rush Limbaugh would have to become her campaign chaos manager to save her in this race....

Good story...but could you take on a new assignment?

It would be to compile an independent thorough PowerPoint list of the Hispanics working in the Clinton/Obama/McCain campaigns? Further, could you stratify them in some way, so it is readily apparent who is contributing in a major strategic sense for each campaign versus those serving as important, but more humble positions?

Don’t try to get it perfect or complete the first time….allow for input and comments so that others could contribute suggestions…

You might also segment it by paid versus volunteer, and by State.  If possible, you might try to interview the major volunteers and obtain their input on who should be on the lists, and where….

The information will be particularly useful in the months and years to come.  For example, when  and if time comes for obtaining positions with the new administration, your list may be the de-facto “official” list.  I would love to see follow-up stories and interviews over the next few years with those who win and lose (out on the plum jobs).

I have been around during these transition times, and inwardly smiled at the numerous phone calls that would shortly after the votes are in that start “….send me your resume so that we can put it into circulation for xyz…”

Would you accept this assignment?  Please do…it should be done, and you may be in the best position to do it.  If it would help, I would contribute to Hispanic.com who would then pay you.  I am good for $25 for a “C” effort, $50 for a “B” effort, and $100 for an “A” effort…..and we would let the audience decide which category your story falls into.  Perhaps Hispanic.com would match it, along with other readers...Hispanic.com could establish a Paypal account into which contributions could be made?

Thank you for your articles…

Your assessment and engaging flair are commendable: miracle # 1 achieved in West Virginia yesterday.  Do you think the Superdelagates are paying attention?  Miracle # 2 : the pastor who replaced Reverand Wright appears to be following in Reverand Wright's footsteps, a similar rhetoric.  Miracle # 3 will not be known until after the undisputed nomination, working against the nominee, if Obama.  However, Senator Clinton still has a chance to win the nomination.  My interpretation of the rules:  the superdelegates are designated in order to choose the best candidate.  There is no stipulation to my knowledge requiring they support the candidate with the most delegates ( since that magic number has not been achieved) nor the candidate with the most popular vote (not a criteria).  In any event, you might find Senator Clinton has the most popular votes after West Virginia and or including Florida and Michigan.  The real question should be, who is the candidate best positioned to win the election in November?  A look at the electoral college votes won during the primary might be a better indicator of  the stronger candidate despite not being part of the rules.  Should the Superdelagates consider this situation?

I, too, would be interested in you taking on TexasN's assignment.  I would be willing to send a matching contribution predicated on my own assessment of your work, though I confess, my standards are particularly high.

Keep up the great articles,
