Good Night Captain Mama: Buenas Noches Capitán Mamá by Graciela Tiscareño-Sato is the first bilingual children’s picture book teaching young children why women and mommies wear military uniforms and serve in our nation’s armed forces. The book upon its debut hit the #1 spot for both ‘Hot New Releases’ for Children’s Hispanic/Latino books and ‘Children’s Military Fiction’.
The book follows the story of a little boy named Marco. Marco is walking to his bedroom, when he spots his mother in her military flight suit. It’s the first time he’s seen her in the flight suit, so before he goes off to sleep for the night, Marco and his mother have a conversation about airplanes, why she served in the military, and what she did in the impressive KC-135R aerial refueling plane.
The book is very popular during Hispanic Heritage month, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and during Women’s History month. You’ll also find an art activity for young readers at the end of the book, as well as a downloadable patch can be found online on the book’s website.

Tiscareño-Sato has also authored another book titled Latinnovating: Green American Jobs and the Latinos Creating Them, a collection of business case studies that’s used in high schools, colleges and business schools around the country.
