    Anybody blogging as a business?

I started blogging a couple of months ago.  I did it for fun and I enjoy doing it.  I put some ads in it and I'm making very little money, but I don't care, because my thing is to have fun.  What about you?

How does that work, exactly?  You just start a blog and different advertisers pay you? How do you get paid doing that?  I might be interested......

interested too, how do you make "a little money" at it.

I hear some folks out there can quit their jobs, after a few months.  I don't know how they manage to do that.

     But give the scoop.

Well, in my case, I set up a blog and I'm writing content into it.  The n I placed some Adsense from Google, and they place ads accordin g to the content I have.  And I try to do the marketing on the blog to get visitors.  If those visitors click the ads, you make money! But you are not allowed to click your own ads or to ask people to click them... Others also have "affiliates", like Amazon.com... if someone entrers Amazon.com through your site, and they buy something, you get a "comission" from Amazon... I know there are people that are making a lot of money with websites selling stuff, and blogging can be a way too.  But for me is just for fun and a way to be creative somehow.

ok, that's what I do too, but i don't make more than a couple dollars from it a day, and usually it's less than a dollar.  So I don't know how to ramp that up.  I know some sites, and people make enough to quit their day job.  That would be amazing.  But I don't know how they get so many people to visit their sites, or how in the world they go so many people clicking their ads.

I heard of a guy that made $600,000,00 a year with Yahoo ads alone! But he has over 500 websites, and many of them are very popular.  So, when you add all those websites and clicks, of course you get a lot of money.  I only have 2 little blogs! And I do it for fun... I'm lucky if I make 10 cents a day!!! LOL!  I think the trick is the amount of sites and how popular they are.

Re: Anybody blogging as a business?

Yeah, I've heard of people who have lucked out, and are just making crazy money from those ads.  In fact at some sites, people have submitted copies of their adsense or yahoo checks for the money they make. (because the sums are so outrageous...people don't believe they make that much)

Look at the guy who started Fark, - he did this way back in the 90s when he was living in Germany I think (like berlinlife)  and apparently he was studying abroad or something.  SO he started sending back just like  a weekly email of oddities he'd notice.  So then, it grew, and grew, and now he's making $1 Million plus doing the site, & it's just him and his girlfriend who run it.

     It's amazing.

So what's the secret to building a popular blog???  (If I knew of course...I'd be doing it :)

Re: Anybody blogging as a business?

Maybe it is all just in what you are blogging about to make people want to read it every day.

I don't know how to make it popular! I wish I knew... but I guess a lot has to do with content.  If you have good content, and not just stuff on "how to make money on the internet for free" then maybe people would visit often.  I also think you need to market the blog with the people you want.

Re: Anybody blogging as a business?

You would think that would be good content - seems like everybody is trying to learn how to make money on the web.  You just have to find a way to make it unique.

Re: Anybody blogging as a business?

Yup, & everybody has a blog these days.  I think it was easier back when- when fewer people were blogging.  Now look, even the newspapers are having prob's cause everybody's on the web getting their news (including news from bloggers) & not reading the paper anymore.

I would like to know the content secret, seems people go to some blogs, over others....Why?

And how do you market a blog - besides going to other bloggers sites & replying?

Re: Anybody blogging as a business?

I think content depends also on the kind of public you are after.  My blogs are directed to a very specific group, and I found a site that is very popular for that, and that's where I post the most and have my blog site as a signature.  But again, if it is "how to make money: there are soooo many out there, the thing is extremely boring!!!!
I compare my blog with another one that started exactly the same day, but the other one is about making money.  They have had around 2 thosand visitors, and I reached 4500 visitors today...   I believe the more specific, the better results.

Re: Anybody blogging as a business?

I once considered being a band reviewer because of the way I would write my journal entries back when I was going to many concerts. People enjoyed reading them because they were descriptive and made you feel like you were there, leaving no details out.

I guess I just stopped caring about shows so much so I haven't really pursued it, but anytime you can get a lot of people's attention, you should use it to your advantage, which is what makes the internet so great!

    Totaly agree with RoxyMoron!

If you have some original thing to say and people enjoy reading it, then it is time for you to make sure you take advantage of the attention! That´s when ads come into play.  The people visiting will click away!

I guess anytime you feel you have something to share or contribute to society you should do.  It's just all in getting started that is the hard part.
