Naturalization Information for Military Personnel

A streamlined citizenship process is in place for selected members of the U.S. Military, who can be eligible to become U.S. citizens under special provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).  Members from branches including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, selected National Guard and Ready Reserve members, can qualify.


The streamlined process is for military personnel in active-duty status or those recently discharged.

 

Additional Military Naturalization Benefits

No filing fees for naturalization.

Overseas naturalization process ability to members of the Armed Forces at U.S. embassies, consulates, and selected military installations abroad.

  

Qualifications

  • Good moral character
  • English language knowledge
  • U.S. government and history/civics knowledge
  • Oath of allegiance to the U.S. Constitution

Can be Waived

  • Required residency
  • Physical presence in the United States
