NSU’s ‘Cervantes Outstanding Educator Award’
Miami, FL…October 15, 2012…Father Daniel Robert Kent, Archbishop Curley Notre Dame 6 to 12 Prep’s AP Spanish Literature Teacher has won the Cervantes Outstanding Educator Award. The award helps pay special tribute during Hispanic Heritage Month to those members of the Miami-Dade County Schools who have made significant contributions to promoting excellence in the education of the area’s Hispanic Students.
The awardees will be honored at the 15th Annual Cervantes Outstanding Educator Award Ceremony on October 30, 2012 at the Hilton Miami Airport. This event is hosted each year by Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Fischler School of Education and Human Services and its Hispanic Advisory Board.
Father Daniel Robert Kent was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated in 1960 earning a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Teaching Minors in History and Spanish. In 1963, he was ordained a priest. A growing love for the Spanish language inspired him to pursue a Masters of Arts in Spanish and advanced studies in Spanish Literature.
Fr. Kent has been teaching at ACND Prep for the past eight years. He comments, “I strongly believe that the students I teach, especially ones from Hispanic backgrounds, can grow a better understanding of the roots of their diverse histories, through learning the ins and outs of Spanish Literature.”
“Father Kent has served the larger community at ACND for over 40 years and inspired generations of students,“ comments Douglas Romanik, ACND Principal. “He has been a great asset to our community both spiritually and intellectually faithfully guiding students with his wit and knowledge.”
Archbishop Curley Notre Dame 6 to 12 Prep offers Spanish for native speakers and non-speaking students as well as an Advance Placement college credit course. Courses are also offered in French, Latin, Italian, and recently Arabic. ACND strives to instill in their students an appreciation and respect for other cultures while giving them a firm grasp in communicative skills that will serve them in real-life situations.
